The key role of women in the Oceans & Human Health topic

The importance of marine ecosystems for human health is a subject that arouses great interest in science and society. In this sense, different studies and innovative initiatives have been developed that aim to make these complex relationships better known. One of them is the Chair Oceans and Human Health (www.oceanshealth.udg.edu) of the University of Girona in Catalonia (Spain), a new tool to study and raise awareness of the importance of marine ecosystems for the health and well-being of people. The Chair benefits from the collaboration of more than 50 experts in marine biology, medicine, environmental education, anthropology, veterinary medicine, health, etc. In the theme "Oceans and Human Health", the role of women has been, is and will be crucial, although often the importance of their work is not visualized well enough.
 

In collaboration with the “Women with Science” blog, the Chair has introduced the work of five excellent women researchers and managers of the marine environment, all of them collaborators of the Chair, who study the relationships between the oceans and health and in order to preserve marine ecosystems and the health and well-being of people. Enthusiasts and experts in their work, they also offer us their vision and opinion on the role and leadership that women should have (and that the Chair shares in its entirety) in a key issue so that future generations can continue to enjoy the benefits from the sea.
